Envisioning
Envisioning is about the way we make sense of the world, and the mysterious process of imagination. It compares two different ways of seeing: recognition and imagination. To perceive something visual in the world, our eyes rely on light to illuminate it, giving it color and depth. To envision something in our minds, we rely on a different type of light: the spark of imagination.
Time is also an important factor in both types of seeing. We recognize and make sense of what we see based on the past we bring to that experience. It is time that gives us our understanding—the line of history that shines from behind us to illuminate meaning. Interestingly, scientific theorists use a concept known as “imaginary time” to describe a second hypothetical temporal plane. Perhaps there are rays of imaginary history that shine in our minds, allowing us to envision new ideas.
Envisioning was created in Adobe Photoshop, where scans of ink markings, handwriting, and scientific diagrams were combined with digital photos and original type.
