communication

building community

Beyond art and design, I have worked on some public communication projects for our schools and local community. These recent examples also provide glimpses of my broader work in support of education, deep learning, and caring for each other.

Boxford PTO Communication

My role in the Boxford PTO was always focused on supporting deeper learning and connectedness through leadership, curriculum enrichment, events, documentation and communication. We did a lot of work to support the students and schools, and developed media strategies to keep our community aware of the good work being done. We implemented an entirely new web-based portal, e-commerce and communication site and blog. While some communication was promotional, we also focused a lot on the values, ideas and content our youth were experiencing and learning. The goal was always to deepen conversations—both at school and at home—about what’s going on, and what matters. I was truly honored to help raise and manage funds, work with teachers and special guests, witness the joy of engaged student learning, and document and communicate about the energizing programs and events. Themes revolve around kindness, curiosity, creativity, and play. You can get a sense of some of this work through the photos and writing in our blog.

Masconomet School Committee Blog

My work on the Masconomet School Committee blog also had the goal of fostering awareness and understanding in our community. Open communication was very important, and the blog also represents the broader work being done by our committee—especially through community relations during the Covid-19 pandemic. We hosted a forum and several listening sessions to foster communication, support and understanding between the committee, community, students, teachers, staff and administration.

I was also honored to collaborate with students, faculty and community members to produce the first Small Town Hero Awards, driven and developed by our High School Student Council, which is captured in the blog.
